This written and video blog series documents the assembly and testing of our battery replacement drone, or BRD (pronounced “bird”) as well as the exchange and guidance gizmo, or EGG (pronounced “egg”). The BRD is a quadcopter drone that aims to be able to fly a new battery out to another drone in operation when that drone’s battery life gets too low. The EGG is the novel device that aligns the two drones and actually swaps the batteries.

The project is broken down into three sections, the software portion, the electrical portion, and the mechanical portion. They are referred to as Software, Electrical, and Mechanical respectively when talking about subjects related to them.

Most of the time, the videos are filmed first as an initial reaction to the progress made and are followed by the more structured and thought-out written version of the blog.
