About B.R.D.

The battery limitation of drones is a major obstacle to achieving continuous flight time which is a significant issue for a number of fields such as drone delivery, building scanning, and surveillance.

There is a clear need in the market for a mechanism or method to extend the battery life of a drone to perform long duration flights.

Our team decided to tackle this problem by developing an idea for replacing a drone's battery mid-flight using another drone.

The team decided the solution to be an in-flight swapping one for the following reasons:

  • Provides 100% battery extension by fully swapping out depleted batteries

  • No loss of state as battery swap is performed in-flight

  • Battery delivery can be done concurrently with drone operations
